WHAT IS BMX RACING?

BMX Racing is an exciting sport to both participate in and to watch. Races are short and incredibly swift, with typical races lasting under a minute, therefore racers must be extremely fit and also highly confident – confident in terms of both their ability and in their equipment.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF BMX RACING

Health benefits for both younger and older participants include a good level of overall health as the sport provides a full body workout and encourages upper body strength, due to the repeated requirement of pulling the handlebars upwards in order to manoeuvre the bike to perform jumps or tricks. Intense pedalling also improves cardiovascular fitness and stamina.

COMMON INJURIES OF BMX RACING

The nature of BMX Racing can mean that injuries are relatively likely, should a racer be unfortunate enough to come off the BMX. The most common injuries associated with the sport are blunt force injury, including mild to moderate bruising and cuts sustained as a result of impact with the ground or track surface. Fractures are also relatively common, particularly to the wrists, knees and ankles.
