What is Aerobic Training?
Aerobics is a form of exercise combining rhythmic aerobic exercise with stretching and strength training routines with the goal of improving all elements of fitness. Those that take part in Aerobic training perform a variety of routines with dance-like exercises, usually to music. Aerobic gymnastics, also known as sport aerobics, is a type of competitive aerobics involving choreography, rhythmic and acrobatic gymnastics with elements of aerobics. Performances are judged on elements such as dynamic and static strength, jumps and leaps, balance and flexibility. Sport aerobics has national and international competitions.
Common Sports Injuries for Aerobic Training
While it can improve fitness, there are certain things aerobics won’t do. It won’t build lean muscle as muscle strength, especially upper body and core strength, may be neglected and it needs to be used consistently in order to be effective for fat loss.
Also, repetitive, high-impact aerobic exercise may cause overuse injuries such as tibial stress syndrome and knee pain. However, these aerobic injuries can be prevented by wearing proper footwear and doing the appropriate pace of activity and amount of exercise. Formal aerobics classes like those at gyms are divided into different levels of intensity and complexity to allow participants to select their level of participation according to their fitness level.
